New York City - Snow - Financial District
If you have been following along with my posts, it’s pretty clear that I have been pining away for a good snow here in New York City. Earlier this week I posted some photos of Central Park’s most beautiful winter views and a compilation of photos of a snowy night in Manhattan. Well, I am happy to say that today definitely delivered in terms of snowy goodness.
After a hearty breakfast, I headed out to explore a part of Manhattan I rarely get to enjoy in the snow: the Financial District. I have photographed the Financial District quite a bit but never during a winter storm. It’s actually one of my favorite parts of lower Manhattan. Between its historic streets and its gotham-like feel, it’s hard to not get swept up in the cinematic elements of the neighborhood.
Gallery Key (corresponds to the order of photos in the photo-set):
1. This is Stone Street. The street dates back to the 1600s and has the distinction of being New York City’s first paved street. View this photo in my portfolio here: New York City - Snow - Stone Street
2. City Hall Park surrounds Manhattan’s City Hall which is the oldest city hall in the United States that still is the seat of various government functions. The fountain is flanked by some of the last working glasslights in the city. View this photo in my portfolio here: New York Winter - City Hall Fountain in the Snow
3. Nothing is more iconic in the Financial District than the facade of the New York Stock Exchange. For 90 years there has been a holiday tree that sits in front of the stock exchange (it’s a traditional “Christmas tree” that is flanked by menorahs and serves as a mixed holiday tree). 4.When evening falls in the Financial District, the neighborhood’s architecture stands out against the dramatic light and shadows that come into play in the evening hours. View this photo in my portfolio here: New York City - Winter - Financial District in the Snow
5. I have a penchant for narrow streets that can be misconstrued as alleys and the Financial District has several streets that meet this brief. This is one of them adorned with snow. View this photo in my portfolio here: New York City - Winter - Bicycling Down an Alley in the Snow
